Guild elects its first Lady Master

Following the Guild's AGM at Altrincham on Saturday, 8th September, the Guild has a new Master following the retirement, after his three year stint, of Peter Robson from Thurstaston. The Master-ship returns to Mid Cheshire, and is also a first for the Guild - its first Lady Master - Pam Thomson, who is, of course, Weaverham's Tower Captain, and who has previously held various positions at both Branch and Guild level. Pam took over at the end of the meeting, and has also been appointed as one of the Guild's Central Council reps.

Branch does it again!

Following the AGM and tea in Altrincham C of E Primary School, the annual Inter- Branch 8 bell striking competition was held at Bowdon. Four of the Guild's five Branches took part, South being unable to field a team.

The test piece was a Bob course of Cambridge Surprise Major, and was judged by Frank Anderton and Jean Barnes from our neighbouring Lancashire Association. After some general ringing following the competition, the assembled company gathered in the church to hear the results.

Mid Branch had rung last, so had to wait until the end to hear the verdict, but had narrowly beaten East into second place. Although there had been "slight stretching at the end of rows", the band's overall performance was described as "bright and confident" and "pretty clean". It is the sixth consecutive win for Mid, who have won 12 of the 21 competitions which have been held since 1987. So the Ken Lewis shield remains in the Branch!
